I loafe and invite my soul,
I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.

My tongue, every atom of my blood, form'd from this soil, this air,
Born here of parents born here from parents the same, and their
parents the same,
I, now thirty-seven years old in perfect health begin,
Hoping to cease not till death.

Creeds and schools in abeyance,
Retiring back a while sufficed at what they are, but never forgotten,
I harbor for good or bad, I permit to speak at every hazard,
Nature without check with original energy.    

Me celebro y me canto a mí mismo.
Y lo que yo asuma tú también habrás de asumir,
Pues cada átomo mío es también tuyo.

Vago al azar e invito a vagar a mi alma.
Vago y me tumbo sobre la tierra, para contemplar un tallo de hierba.

Mi lengua, cada molécula de mi sangre formada por esta tierra y este aire.
Nacido aquí de padres cuyos padres nacieron aquí y
Cuyos padres también aquí nacieron.
A los treita y siete años de edad, gozando de perfecta salud,
Comienzo y espero no detenerme hasta morir.

Que se callen los credos y las escuelas,
Que retrocedan un momento, conscientes de lo que son y
Sin olvidarlo nunca.
Me brindo al bien y al mal, me permito hablar hasta correr peligro.
Naturaleza sin freno, original energía.
