For/Against essay

FOR & AGAINST ESSAYS

● A for & against essay is a formal piece of writing in which a topic is considered from opposing points of views. You should present both
sides in a fair way by discussing them objectively and in equal way.
● Use formal style (don´t use contractions or very colloquial expressions)
● List points for & against before you start writing.
● Back up your points with reasons & examples.
● Use connectors to link your ideas.
● Write 4 paragraphs:
1.-An introduction: in which you clearly state the topic to be discussed without giving opinions.

2.-Main body. Present your points for and against in separate paragraphs, along with your justifications, examples or reasons.

3.-Closing paragraph: give your opinion or a balanced consideration of the topic. Opinion words ( I think, I believe, etc…) can only be
used in the conclusion.
